Nothing ruins a theme park day like arriving at the one ride you came for and finding it closed. Here is a current look at what is down, what is changing and what to know before a fall or winter Universal Orlando trip.
Volcano Bay: seasonal closure starting October 26
Universal Volcano Bay begins a seasonal closure on October 26, 2026, and is scheduled to reopen on or before March 24, 2027. Universal has framed it as a long refurbishment period. If a water park day is part of your plan, book for before the closure or for spring.
Jurassic Park River Adventure: closed for a major refurbishment
The ride at Universal Islands of Adventure has been closed since January for a large refurbishment. Reopening is currently scheduled for November 20, 2026, per the most recent update. One earlier report said November 19, so confirm the date as your trip approaches. Universal has not confirmed any larger changes beyond the refurbishment.
Skull Island: Reign of Kong: modified ending
This ride is operating, but with a modified ending. The King Kong animatronic was damaged during recent maintenance, and Universal has not given a timeline for returning to the full experience. If the finale is your reason to ride, check ahead.
Fast & Furious: Supercharged: gone
The Universal Studios Florida version of Fast & Furious: Supercharged was set to permanently close on August 17, 2026. Over in California, the new Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster opened at Universal Studios Hollywood on September 16, 2026. An Orlando version has been reported for 2027, but we would not plan around it yet.
Heads up for California visitors
Jurassic World: The Ride at Universal Studios Hollywood is temporarily closed for refurbishment.

How to protect your trip
Check the day-of schedule. Closures and refurbishment dates move. Universal's own calendar and app are the final word.
Ask before you buy. If a specific attraction is your priority, make sure it is open on your dates before you commit to tickets.
Plan a backup. A flexible itinerary and a few alternate rides keep a closure from derailing the day.
