You knew this post was coming. Villains Land is the project every fan of the dark side has been waiting on, and since D23 this August, there is real news. There is also a lot of speculation floating around. Here is what is solid and what is not.
What Disney has confirmed
- It has an official name. For two years everyone called it "Villains Land." Disney made it official at D23 in 2026.
- It lives beyond Big Thunder Mountain. The land is under construction at Magic Kingdom Park, in the area past Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
- There are two headline attractions. A dark ride and a roller coaster, with Maleficent among the villains featured.
- A wishing well with a dark twist. Disney has described an evil wishing well with mysterious powers at the heart of the land.
- It is part of something huge. Together with the Cars expansion, it is described as the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history.
What we do not have
An opening date. Disney has not announced a timeline. Anyone who gives you a specific year is guessing, so do not book a trip around it. Ride names, full villain lineups and the ride systems are also still unconfirmed in many cases.
The Cars side of the expansion
Alongside Villains Land, Disney is building a Cars area called Piston Peak in Frontierland. Construction has begun, and the site cleared the old Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island space. Attractions reported so far include Miss Fritter's Daredevil Spin. Like Villains Land, there is no confirmed opening date.
What this means for your plans
If you are a villain fan, you have plenty to enjoy at Walt Disney World right now. We pulled together a guide to the best villains-themed experiences you can book today, no waiting required.
Meanwhile, Magic Kingdom Park is going to feel like a construction zone in places for a while. Expect some walls, some detours and some lost views. That is the cost of an expansion this size.
Our advice: Plan for the park you can ride today, treat Villains Land as a future bonus, and ask us about the timingonce Disney gives a real date. We will be among the first to tell you..
